Incorporating a nonprofit: Build your own bylaws

This workshop is for individuals who have decided incorporation is right for their nonprofit, and are prepared to incorporate.

This full-day working session is for individuals who have decided incorporation is right for their nonprofit and are prepared to incorporate. Two main documents are required for incorporation: articles of incorporation and bylaws.

In this session, we will go step-by-step through creating both. For each step, the facilitator will provide information, participants will then have time to fill in the required forms, and then participants will have opportunities to ask questions. By the end of the session, participants could have at least an initial draft of the required materials to incorporate.

Participants are strongly encouraged to take the following steps before attending:

  • If you are unsure about whether you want to incorporate, please read these pages.
  • Please make a selection about whether you intend to incorporate provincially or federally before attending. If you are unsure of the differences, see this page.
  • Based on your selection of jurisdiction, please explore the information you will need to have on hand for Ontario or for Canada. You will get more out of the session if you have as much of this information available ahead of time as possible.
  • Based on your selection of jurisdiction, please explore the bylaws builder tools we will be using for Ontario or for Canada.

This session will run from 10:00-12:00 and 1:00-4:00, and cover topics including:

  • Choosing a Jurisdiction
  • Drafting and filing articles of incorporation
  • Post-incorporation steps
  • Build your own bylaws

You will have an opportunity to ask questions during this session but it will not be recorded. All registered participants will receive a curated list of resources within one week of the event. Current ONN members are eligible for a discount on this workshop, for the code or any questions about the event, please email info@theonn.ca.
